THE RISE OF MOHAMMED KUDUS ( A Thread)

By : Don Mitchell

As many people in Ghana know, I’ve proven to be a reliable source regarding WAFA talents & the local players, that’s why I want to surprise my friends from Ghana with the golden story behind Kudus Mohammed who I believe can make the difference at the WC.

Mohammed born in Nima, a Zongo residential town in the Greater Accra Region. A large and popular market town – known as the “Nima market” in Ghana’s capital city.

His journey started as a little boy with Strongtower FC and then the Dynamic Heroes football academy in Nima.

At the age of 12 he joined the Right to Dream Academy.

In the Academy it was immediately clear that he’s an extraordinary boy, a diamond that only needed to be polished.

Some quotes from “Ayoba”, the man who discovered Kudus in his early years in Nima.

Kudus is in the middle

“I discovered him in Nima, he was playing football by the road side. I saw that He had a special technique. So I went to his family to ask if I could train him. At first they didn’t understand the game so they were reluctant to release him to. “But Kudus had the passion for football so I use to pick him up from school and then train him. “I then went to Tom Vernom of RTD and told him Kudus was better than all their players. They didn’t believe it. So they asked me to bring him over, he played and scored two goals in the game and they admitted him”

Mohammed’s road to his first World-Cup at youth level.

In 2017, at the age of 17, he took his team to the Quarterfinals where he scored a goal.

In 2018 he was able to fulfill his dream of a move to Europe when the RTD Academy met the Nordsjaelland Academy in a game.

His goal in that game & his incredible skills secured him a move to Nordsjaelland.

Kudus made his debut in the Danish Superliga two days after his 18th birthday.

What happened was the transformation of a journey that set the stage for one of Ghana’s most promising young stars.

For Nordsjaelland he played a total of 57 games and scored 14 goals.

His first call-up to the Ghana national team was in 2019.Mohammed came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute and scored a worldie few minutes later. He brought an instant impact to the team and has been the heart of the team alongside Partey ever since.

In Summer 2020, Ajax confirmed the transfer of Mohammed Kudus from FC Nordsjaelland for 9 million €

The campaign for Mohammed with Ajax featured several highs and lows.

Started very well as De Jong’s replacement, he got badly injured in the first CL game against Liverpool.

In 2022, after the coach change and excellent preparation by Mohammed, public pressure increased because he still hardly got playtime.

Against Rangers on September. 7th he finally got his chance after two difficult years of injurys and bad coach decisions & was voted as the MVP.

That was the start of an incredible group stage with four goals and two assists and several records broken by Mohammed.

We’ve almost reached the end of the thread, so I’ll close the thread with a quote from his former discoverer Ayoba 👇

“The people who have been with him from the start, they know he’ll be one of the best footballers in the world.”
