Defensive midfielders are worth their weight in gold. An engine that means they can cover the ground for the entire 90 mins and the ability to pop up to make a saving challenge. Every championship winning team needs a good defensive midfielder who can act as a shield to the defense and goalkeeper.
For all that individual quality can make an impact, football is fundamentally a team game in which each of the components must work together to achieve the desired results but Kotoko system clearly shows Justice Blay is the driving force of the team.
In their first win this season against Accra Lions, you could clearly see that Blay’s experience gave a lot of steel and energy to the team,he changed the game with his passes and kept the team playing forward.
Justice Blay is a competent tackler, and a tactically intelligent midfielder, who has known for his ability to anticipate his opponents, distribution and vision enables him to start attacking play in midfield after winning back possession. His energetic and combative box- box style of play, as well as his pace, tactical awareness and abilities as a ball-winner, allowed him to form a successful midfield partnership with Richmond Lamptey.
The former Medeama man has shown a lot of qualities after his arrival at Kotoko, no wonder the fans always screams his name whenever he touches the ball.
The talented midfielder has suffered a lot of injuries in recent years which always serves as a major blow to his club, fans of Kotoko are praying and hoping for him to stay fit this season.
The drop in quality when Blay isn’t on the pitch is extremely worrying.
The Former Medeama player has been phenomenon and the workhorse of their winning team.Having Justice Blay popularly known as Chief Justice in your team is clearly a big boost. His presence gives Richmond Lamptey and Mohammed Sheriff the freedom to pull the strings and make more of an impact in the final third. These are few players in Prosper Ogum’s squad they have struggled to replace when they are unavailable for selection and Blay is definitely one member of the side who leaves a big void when he is not there.
In years to come he will certainly reach higher stages in his career and certainly a top star for his club and country.
