  1. Hard brushing your teeth:

Aggressively brushing your teeth can irritate the gums, cause gums to recede, hurt your gum, erode tooth enamel, and lead to tooth sensitivity.

To prevent brushing too hard, choose a toothbrush with soft bristles.

Make sure to replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months or when bristles show signs of wear.

Brushing does not secure white teeth, it only removes bacteria and food particles in your mouth and to maintain good breath.

See your dentist if you wish to secure white teeth.

  1. Too much coffee:

We all need our daily vice, and usually it’s a nice hot cup of coffee in the morning to start your day.

But coffee is notoriously known for staining teeth.

The acidity in the coffee can cause yellowing over time.

Fortunately, the staining can be undone by using various whitening methods used by dentists or even by simply brushing twice daily to keep your teeth healthy and do away with the stains.

  1. Using your tooth as tools:

When you use your teeth for something other than what they are designed for, such as using your teeth to open a bottle or to cut off a price tag, you run the risk of accidentally cracking your teeth or injuring your jaw.

Keep real tools in handy, like a bottle opener and scissors, so you are not tempted to use your teeth.

  1. Smoking:

Smoking not only impacts your heart and lungs, but also damages your oral health.

Smoking puts you at higher risk of gum disease, as well as causes tooth discoloration, bad breath, loss of taste, tooth decay, tooth loss, and oral cancer.

Your dentist can work with you to mitigate the effects of smoking, but quitting is the best solution.

  1. Alcohol consumption:

Alcohol dries out the mouth, preventing saliva from washing away bacteria, causing bad breath and putting your teeth at greater risk of developing cavities.

Moreover, alcohol is acidic and that wears away the enamel.

6. Chewing ice cubes:

The rigidity and cold temperature of ice can cause teeth to fracture and cause damage to fillings and other dental restorations. To avoid this habit, drink through a straw or drink partially chilled beverages without ice.

  1. Nail biting:

One of the toughest habits to kick is nail biting.

Nail biting may seem harmless and the only thing you are harming are your nails.

But biting your nails can cause chipped teeth and jaw dysfunction.

There are many ways to kick this habit, there are bitter tasting nail polishes made to coat your nails and taste horrible if you start biting at them.

That can help.

  1. Too much consumption of fizzy/ acidic drinks:

Sweets are not the only ones that are the main causes of tooth decay.

Many soft drinks can have up to 11 teaspoons of sugar per serving.

To lessen your sugar intake usually people opt for sugar free versions of these drinks.

What they don’t show you is that although they skip all the sugar, they may have even more acid in the form of sweeteners.

So maybe treat these drinks as a treat.

Cut them out as much as you can and go for water as Cristiano Ronaldo did.

  1. Brushing your teeth just after consuming acidic drinks/ fruits:

Brushing teeth too soon after eating or drinking acidic foods can soften the tooth enamel.

Worst senario, can cause tooth bleeding and tooth decay.
