SIC Insurance Plc, as part of its social corporate responsibility, has made a substantial donation of GH¢100,000 to boost Citi FM/Citi TV’s #Relief4LowerVolta campaign.
Management of Citi FM/Citi TV commissioned the campaign following the spillage of the Akosombo Dam and its resultant devastation on residents in South Tongu, North Tongu, Central Tongu, Asuogyaman, and several other areas.
The listed public limited liability company with over 14,000 shareholders explained that the donation is a way to help lessen the plight of the affected people.
Making the donation on behalf of SIC, the Chief Executive Officer, Steven Oduro intimated that though the destruction caused by the Akosombo Dam’s spillage was not budgeted for, it is difficult to see the people go through such suffering.
“Even though this was not budgeted for, we find it necessary no matter what it is, to come to the aid of our people. Right here today, we are going to give them some money, but let me tell you, it will take years for them to recover. All your properties are gone; you have suffered enough to put up a house, furnish it, and everything else and cannot use it again so on behalf of SIC, the Board and Management, we are contributing GH¢100,000,” he said.
Mr. Oduro further disclosed that he would visit some of the affected areas to ascertain the level of destruction caused.
“You see, we have offices in the Volta region. We have one in Aflao, one in Ho, one in Hohoe, and one in Akatsi, and so in essence, we have clients who have been affected, so thanks to the staff, I am going to go to Ho tomorrow and I will take it upon myself to also visit some of the affected areas,” Oduro added.
