In the quest to revive the seemingly dead Ghanaian movie industry, a group of producers in Kumasi have formed an alliance to make it strong again as it were in the days of Agya Koo when Kumawood (films produced in Kumasi) was very potent. This campaign which is strongly fronted by Samuel Nyamekye (Miracle Films owner) raised eyebrows within the Kumawood key players who in recent times have blamed either producers, distributors, actors and even consumers as the reason for cause of Kumawood’s collapse.
The film producer who discovered big stars such as Kofi Adu (Agya Koo), Akwasi Boadi (Akrobeto), Mercy Asiedu and others, revealed actors must make sacrifices to become stars which he had backing from Socrate Sarfo who was present in the studio as a pundit and pioneer in the film industry. In a bid to defend what he terms “sacrifice”, he cited some actors who became stars through him whom he paid some mediocre fees in the name of making them stars.
Miracle Films as he’s fondly referred to by many, claimed he paid Agya Koo as low as ¢50 GHS, Mercy Asiedu ¢30 GHS as they were coming up. He furthermore added that Mercy Asiedu was in laughter mood after being paid that amount of money for shooting the popular three chaptered series.
