The much-anticipated Ghana Football Association (GFA) Awards, in its inaugural edition, took place on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) in Accra.
This grand event was a celebration of outstanding achievements by players, coaches, and clubs across various GFA-organized competitions.
One of the standout moments of the night was when Vincent Atinga, the Medeama SC defender, was crowned as the Ghana Premier League’s best player of the season, a testament to his exceptional performance on the field.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ Mary Amponsah left her mark by claiming two prestigious awards – the top scorer of the season and the best women’s player of the season, showcasing her incredible talent and contributions to the sport.
Reigning Ghana Premier League champions, Medeama SC, and Women’s Premier League title holders, Ampem Darkoa Ladies, shone brightly at the ceremony, each taking home an impressive tally of four awards.
Asante Kotoko was recognized for being the most branded and vibrant club of the season, while FC Samartex 1996 secured the title of the best Supporters of the season.
The evening reached its pinnacle when FIFA referee Julian Nii Akwa Nunoo was announced as the best referee of the season. In recognition of his achievement, he was presented with a luxurious Hyundai Elantra, marking a remarkable moment in his career.
The GFA Awards Gala drew a distinguished crowd, including officials from GFA partners, esteemed Black Stars players and officials, former footballing legends, and featured a special performance by Kofi Kinaata, a four-time Ghana Music Awards songwriter winner. This event truly celebrated the essence of Ghanaian football and the talent that graces the sport.
