Talented Ghanaian dancer, Micheal Amofa, popularly known as Incredible Zigi has expressed his thoughts on the dance industry in Ghana.
Speaking to Andy Dosty on the “DaybreakHitz” show on September 13, 2023, the dancer asked that the Dance fraternity in Ghana be given recognition at the major award events; namely VGMA and 3music awards.
According to him, dancers contribute immensely to the success of songs been churned out currently and should not be sidelined when it comes to mainstream awards. He added that, they literally make the songs well known through dance challenges while the artists go to sleep.
“Most of the songs that are blowing and getting recognition here in Ghana are tailored by dancers. We spend much time on social media, we’re always posting to the song. It’s like the artist is sleeping somewhere and we are the ones blowing the song”. The versatile choreographer shared his sentiment.
“So mainstream awards need to recognize dancers because both go hand in hand. So I feel dancers need to be recognized on the big platform which is VGMA and 3music awards”. He told the host
Ghana’s music scene has in recent times, seen dance become an essential component of its culture through dance challenges which plays an instrumental role in making the songs global hits.
