CONMEBOL have announced that its Group of Technical Study have decided, ahead of the Copa America final that Lionel Messi and Neymar have been the best players of the tournament. The organisation said that it is being shared by two players because they could not it give it to just one of them.
Two players have been given the player of the tournament award for the Copa America. Ahead of the final between Argentina and Brazil, which sees Neymar and Messi on opposite sides, both have won the player of the tournament award.
The Group of Technical Study explained why. They said that it does not make sense to hand out a single trophy when both deserve the award. They are the leaders of their national teams and they have led their teams to the final.
“We did a tactical and technical study on each player and team. And the level these two finalists have been at in the competition show that it has been a resounding success,” the committee of experts said. It is formed by the Development section of CONMEBOL and “well known coaches with a historic track record in South American football sit on the panel.
Messi and Neymar know each other very well. They were together for years in the Barca dressing room. That time is remembered as one of the most glorious in the club’s recent history thanks to Pep Guardiola and his Tiki-Taka football. In the Copa America final, they will likely chat and recall old times.
