Songstress Wiyaala asked a fan who called her the most underrated artiste in Ghana that she is underrated by who?
Noella Wiyaala (known under the stage name Wiyaala is a Ghanaian Afro-pop singer-songwriter who sings in her native language Sissala and Waala dialects and English, often combining all three languages within her songs.
Most fanatics or music lovers have over some time now abused the word underrated as they feel every Ghanaian artiste not getting enough media attention but doing good music is underrated.
The “Leno” hitmaker posted a video of herself and a sister singing ABBA’S Chiquitita and playing the guitar and the fan made a comment that she is the most underrated artiste in Ghana.
Wiyaala in the twist of turn by answering the fan asked who underrated her? She wrote;
“Underrated by Who”?
The songstress went ahead to list of the things the foreign media have written about her and how they see her. Some of what the media wrote are;
BBC NEWS AFRICA – “Wiyaala is winning”
WOMAD UK – “Mesmeric and Charismatic”
FINANCIAL TIMES – “The afropop star defying Ghanaian norms”
SKY NEWS – “An afropop super star on a mission to give young women a voice”
CNN AFRICA – “She’s the only woman in the World singing in Sissala and she will mesmerize you”
BBC NEWS – “A fiesty young woman from northern Ghana bursting with attitude and drive”
IRISH TIMES – “fiesty is not the word – she is a powerhouse in the mode of a young Angelique Kidjo, effervescent and funny, she rocked the crowd (WOMAD) and got a great reception. One to watch
Of all these appreciation, recognition and praises by the foreign media, Wiyaala doesn’t think she is underrated especially when most people think her target is not the Ghanaian market.
