GPL WEEK 8 ROUND UP

Asante Kotoko wrapped up week eight of the Ghana Premier League on Monday afternoon with a fabulous display against Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals.

Kwame Poku latched on to two superb assists from Brazilian, Fabio Gama who was making his first start for the porcupines . The striker thus takes his tally to five goals while moving the Reds to sixth on the table with a game in hand .

Kotoko’s regional neighbours, AshantiGold continued their goal scoring spree as they came back from a goal down to beat Accra Great Olympics with Amos Addai cancelling out Gladson Awako’s 14th-minute lead on the stroke of half-time. Former Bechem United winger, Yaw Anorl secured the three points just two minutes after recess .

In Bechem on Saturday, Kwame Peprah denied Bechem United of the three points by pulling parity in the 48th-minute after Moro Salifu had put the host in the lead before halftime. The hunters were annihilated 6-1 by Hearts of Oak and looked to recover from the hangover but could only settle for a draw.

In Dawu, National U-20 star, Precious Bioh’s brace earned the still believe boys their second win of the season after last weekend’s stalemate in Techiman against King Faisal.

Eleven Wonders found their mojo in Techiman by nailing resilient Karela United to a 3-1 defeat. Wonders were struggling to rediscover their early season form which saw them pick a point against Asante Kotoko in the season’s opener . Goals from Tetteh Nortey(25), Kobina Osoh(79) and George Amponsah (90) ensured the win while Diwiase Taylor managed a consolation in the 72nd minute.

Hearts of Oak survived the razor sharp teeth of the Shark as Victor Aidoo levelled James Bissue’s 20th-minute lead seven minutes past the hour mark . The phobians and the sharks thus settle for fifth and eighth on the league log.

On Saturday, the heavyweight clash between Medeama and Aduana Stars at the Akoon Park , saw the yellow and mauve securing the three points courtesy Agyenim Boateng’s brace . Frank Boateng who was keeping the post for Medeama in the absence of first choice Eric Ofori Antwi , picked the ball from the net as Bright Adjei’s shot deflected into the back of the net.

Legon Cities on Friday managed to put up a smile when Joseph Adjei’s 48th minute spot-kick ensured their first win of the season against Wafa.

Ashgold moved to the summit of the table but will look to consolidate their position when they clash with Medeama on week 9 at the Obuasi Len Clay stadium .
