Ghana Premier league legend Charles Taylor has hit back at those who claimed he couldn’t fulfill his potential saying Hearts of oak denied him a chance to be a world star after rejecting numerous offers across the world including a €400, 000 deal from the Italian side Brescia Calcio in 2003.
Taylor, who rose to stardom in the Ghana Premier League in the 2000s was a talent who could single-handed wins his team games, his ability as a footballer was never in doubt.
people believe he couldn’t live up to the talent he had which prevented him from playing at the highest level
However the former Ghanaian international disagree with those assertions rather, blaming Hearts of oak management for preventing him from playing at the top level.
“It’s not like I didn’t have the ability and skill set to play in Europe, but Hearts of Oak didn’t allow it”- He said on Angel TV
“Stephen Appiah took me to Brescia, I trained with them and they were more than happy to sign me, I remember I was in the car with the President of Brescia and Appiah, the President was happy with me and ask that I return as soon as possible
“I came to Ghana and got ready to return only for Hearts of oak management to tell me, I should wait they have a deal for me in Switzerland, they took me there for several months but I didn’t sign for any club.
“Brescia was ready to pay Hearts of oak €400000 but they didn’t allow me, they rejected several deals from Europe and accepted Kotoko deal
“So how can one blame me for this?
“I normally hear people say, Charles didn’t play football to the highest level because I relied on Juju I want to ask, what is the highest level?— I played Ghana U-17, U-20, U-23, Black Stars B, and the Black stars
“I played for the Tunisia side Etoile, I played in Nigeria, played for Kotoko, you want to tell me I didn’t play at the highest level? I played and won the CAF champions league, played in the Confederation cup final so people must rethink
“I accept that I didn’t make money as those who went to Europe, but hearts of oak Is the cause”
